Joe-San's ST&RS Review

ST&RS Volume One Cover.jpg

ST&RS Written By Takeuchi Ryosuke Illustrated By Miyokawa Masura

Hey! What's up guys?! ST&RS is a fairly new manga as it was just published in 2011.  When I read the first few chapters I wasn't really interested but it really started to pick up in the later chapters.  Speaking of chapters, it has 32 (ongoing) and is running in Shonen Jump.  It should have an anime, because it's interesting enough, but I haven't heard that one is planned.  Of course it may not be long enough for anime.

Story/Plot
The story is set mostly in the years 2033-2035 in Japan.  It begins in the year 2019 when earth gets a message from an extraterrestrial being to meet on Mars in the year 2035.  When the broadcast telling the world about the message was aired the infant Maho Shirafune spoke his first words "Mars". This inspired his passion for space and his goal to meet the aliens on mars.  When Maho graduates middle school he enters a space training academy high school called ST&RS.  Where he strives to be picked to go on the flight to Mars in 2035.

Art
The art is similar to a lot of other newer Jump comics and with the futuristic feel fits well.  I also really like the spaceships Miyokawa-Sensei drew.  They look pretty cool and the backgrounds display a good supporting futuristic feel.

Final Remarks
ST&RS is a pretty interesting Manga, in the fact, it's kinda unique with the astronaut theme.  Yet its similar with common Shonen features.  A good read none the less really starts to pick up at the end.  You should definitely check it out.
